Imposter and Fraud Warning

Farallon Cautions Against Imposters and Other Fraudulent Schemes

From time to time, Farallon becomes aware of fraudulent websites that mimic Farallon’s authorized website or use a misleadingly similar domain to confuse users. Farallon has also heard reports of instant messaging chat groups (e.g., WhatsApp, Telegram) that are purported to be run by Farallon or its personnel. These illegal schemes may use the name and/or trademarks of our company or the names of our personnel to induce members of the public to join a chat group, make a payment or visit a website that is used to defraud them. Imposters may falsely claim to be Farallon personnel or be authorized to act for Farallon. These third-party schemes are not authorized by Farallon, and Farallon is in no way associated with them.

Farallon manages private investment funds that are not offered to the general public. Our personnel do not conduct business through chat groups or websites. Farallon does not allow its personnel to offer “Farallon investment tips.” Virtually all of Farallon’s online environment for investors is private. Farallon email addresses use only the @faralloncapital.com and @farcap.com domains. If you see information about Farallon’s investments on public-facing webpages, or in chat rooms you were invited to join, or from email addresses that are similar to but not Farallon’s, the information may very well be fake.

When Farallon learns of fraudulent schemes and imposters, we endeavor to take appropriate action depending on the observable evidence. Actions may include filing complaints with the domain registries and trademark authorities to have the fraudulent websites taken down, and working with law enforcement to evaluate and shut down fraudulent schemes.

If you suspect a fraudulent scheme or imposter using Farallon’s name, you may file a complaint with the FBI through its Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov. Many on-line platforms also provide a method for reporting suspicious activities within their platforms. If you receive communications purporting to be from Farallon, if you encounter a website or chat room that you suspect may be fraudulently using Farallon’s name, or if you engage with a person you suspect may be a Farallon imposter, you may contact Farallon at +1 415-421-2132 to leave a message describing your experience.
